Rooting & Growing Media Made Right

Parker Bark growing media begins with high quality, 100% Southern Yellow Pine bark from mills that we have vetted for their quality. We don’t rush the process. We age, turn, screen, and test to ensure every batch promotes drainage, aeration, and root health.

Millions of plants have started and grown in our media because the ingredients, the aging, and the process stay consistent. Our formulas have been refined and repeated for decades—what many in North Carolina recognize as the nursery mix standard pioneered by founder Tommy Parker.

Propagation Bark

Our Propagation Bark is composed of carefully aged pine bark fines, screened to a smaller, more uniform particle size than standard fines. These particles provide excellent drainage and aeration without collapsing. Ideal for young, tender cuttings and early root development.

Why growers choose it:

  • Superior drainage & oxygen availability
  • Prevents root rot in high-moisture environments
  • Promotes rapid root structure vs. peat-heavy substrates
  • Can also be used as surface media around established plants

Potting Bark

Our pine bark fines are consistently effective when used as a potting media and soil conditioner. The composted bark fines provide many nutrient benefits. It’s a core ingredient in our Nursery Mix.

Uses:

  • Primary component in nursery mixes
  • Soil amendment for growers
  • Conditioning compacted or inorganic soils

Performance benefits:

  • Encourages aerobic soil conditions
  • Supports microbial health
  • Improves moisture retention without waterlogging
  • Helps prevent compaction in containerized growing

Nursery Mix

A proven potting media trusted for decades. This is the same foundational blend commercial growers have relied on for generations, refined through years of field performance rather than lab theory. Ideal for 1-gallon and larger containers, this is a general-purpose mix used widely by nurseries that prioritize reliability.

  • Parker’s composted pine bark fines
  • Sand
  • Lime
  • Micronutrients

Why it works:

  • Holds structure over time (less collapse)
  • Optimized nutrient availability
  • Minimal transplant shock
