Our Story

Built on hard work, trusted relationships, and quality materials, Parker Bark has been serving growers and landscapers since 1983.

Four Decades of Doing Things the Right Way

In 1983, North Carolina native Tommy Parker was hauling limestone from his small quarry in Rose Hill when something unusual caught his attention—truck after truck filled with discarded bark headed for disposal. Where others saw waste, Tommy saw opportunity. That moment of curiosity, and a lifetime of resourcefulness, became the start of Parker Bark Company.

What began with one man, a few trucks, and a commitment to making better use of natural materials has grown into one of the largest wholesale manufacturers of mulch, potting bark, and nursery mixes in the region. Over the decades, millions of plants have been grown in Parker Bark media, and landscapes across the state have been shaped by products made on our Rose Hill property.

Tommy believed successful growing, like successful business, comes from attention, care, and patience. He often said the best fertilizer is the farmer’s shadow: being present, understanding what’s in front of you, and stewarding it well.

As our facility, fleet, and capabilities have grown, our approach hasn’t changed—we still believe in careful sourcing, hands-on production, and building long-term relationships with the professionals who rely on us season after season. And as we look forward, we continue to expand sustainable practices while still concentrating on quality.

A Family-Run Legacy of Quality and Care

Today, under the leadership of Tommy’s daughter, Susannah Parker Reynolds, Parker Bark remains proudly family-run and rooted in the same principles that built the business:
